Adelasia Nature Reserve
The Adelasia Forest is a hidden gem in the Bormida Valley, which extends for about 500 hectares.
This protected area offers a fascinating journey through history, from its medieval importance to the Napoleonic era, and is one of the few private protected areas in Italy. Here, water is the protagonist: streams and brooks form crystalline pools, suggestive waterfalls and sinuous meanders that pass through dense vegetation. The botanical and faunal species of the reserve are typical of cool and humid climates, creating a lush and vibrant environment. The rocks present tell a geological history of millions of years, with ancient schists and gneisses of the “Cristallino Savonese”, up to the more recent formations of sandstones and conglomerates.
The woods of the Adelasia Forest, part of the Montenotte Woods, represent the beating heart of the reserve. These woods, with their ancient beech forests, are a refuge for numerous rare botanical species and a varied fauna. Here you can meet the roe deer, the wild boar, the badger, and among the trees, hear the call of the green woodpecker or the dipper. Among the bare rocks of the Adelasia and Bric dell'Amore rocks, a particular vegetation stands out with the holm oak, a typically coastal plant, while the majestic centuries-old beech trees in the Costellasso beech forest leave visitors breathless.
